The experience
Three days is enough to move through Jordan's most significant sites without rushing the stops that matter. You travel with a professional English-speaking driver in a private air-conditioned vehicle, picked up from your Amman hotel on day one. The route heads south through Madaba to see its mosaics and the Church of Saint George, then climbs to Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land. Karak Castle comes next (a Crusader stronghold later held by the Mamluks) before the road opens to views of Wadi Mujib, a massive canyon east of the Dead Sea.
Petra arrives on the afternoon of day one. You walk the Siq, a narrow gorge carved into rose-colored stone, and emerge to see the Khazneh, a facade carved into the cliff face over 2,000 years ago by the Nabataeans. The city sits 139 miles south of Amman and was built to control ancient trade routes. You explore its carved towns, dams and water channels before moving on to Wadi Rum. The night is spent in a Bedouin camp inside the reserve: a quiet spot in the red desert where dinner is cooked in traditional style and the sky fills with stars. Bring warm clothes. The desert cools at night.
Day two starts with a 4x4 Jeep tour through Wadi Rum's towering cliffs of red, brown and gold stone, the landscape where Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian were filmed. After the Jeep safari, you drive to Aqaba on the Red Sea coast to explore the city and its castle. The final stop is the Dead Sea, which sits 1,300 feet below sea level and is known for its salt and mineral concentration. You float in the water and can apply the therapeutic mud before returning to Amman. Some meals and all entrance fees are at your own expense.

Top questions
What is the Khazneh at Petra?
The Khazneh is a monumental facade carved directly into the rose-colored cliff face at Petra, believed by early visitors to be a tomb for a Nabataean king. It is the first major structure you see when you emerge from the Siq, the narrow gorge that is the main entrance to the city.
How much walking is involved in this tour?
A moderate amount of walking is involved throughout the three days. Wear proper shoes (sneakers or boots are recommended), and you should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness to complete the itinerary comfortably.
What happens during the night in Wadi Rum?
You stay in a Bedouin camp inside the Wadi Rum reserve in a quiet desert location. Dinner is cooked in traditional Bedouin style, and you have evening activities and time to experience the starlit night. Bring warm clothes, as the desert gets cold after dark.
Can I swim at the Dead Sea?
Yes, you have free time to swim in the Dead Sea and float in its mineral-rich water. You can also apply the therapeutic mud before returning to your hotel in Amman. The high salt and mineral concentration makes swimming a unique experience.
What is included in the accommodation?
Two nights are included: one night at a 3-star hotel near Petra and one night in a Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the Bedouin camp. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Amman are included, as is all transport throughout the tour.
Is the Jeep tour in Wadi Rum included?
