Sushi Making Class in Tokyo: Learn Traditional Nigiri
You'll roll sushi that looks like it came from a restaurant.
A sushi making class in Tokyo where you prepare eight traditional nigiri sushi, one sushi roll, and two side dishes under live instruction in English. The instructor demonstrates each technique, then you make everything yourself using prepared ingredients. Miso soup, green tea, recipes and a Japanese certificate are included.
The experience
The class runs 2.5 hours and covers the fundamentals of nigiri sushi in a hands-on format. You start by watching the instructor show the proper technique, then you make eight pieces of nigiri sushi one by one. The instructor won't cut the fish for you, so you learn the full process. After nigiri, you roll one sushi roll. The pace gives you time to get comfortable with the knife and your hands before moving on.
Beyond sushi, you make two side dishes that teach you skills you can use at home. One is spinach with sesame sauce, which starts with grinding sesame using a Japanese special tool. The other is a Japanese omelet made in a square pan. You'll use chopsticks to fold it, though a special tool is available if chopsticks feel too tricky. You also prepare miso soup from broth with ingredients the class provides. The instructor teaches you about traditional Japanese seasonings and ingredients throughout, so you understand not just the how but the why behind each dish.
At the end, you get all the photos taken during the class, a printed recipe card so you can recreate the dishes, green tea, and a certificate with your name written in Japanese. The class welcomes children from age 4, and vegetarian options are available if you don't eat fish. Just let the instructor know when you book.

Is this one for you?The 2.5-hour format fits a morning or afternoon slot without dominating your day in Tokyo, and the hands-on pace means you're making food the whole time rather than watching a demonstration. If you want to learn a skill you can actually use when you cook at home, the two side dishes and the recipe card make that possible.
