Tokyo Sushi Making Class: Learn 4 Rolls with English Guides
Make four kinds of sushi in one morning, no knife skills required
A 2.5-hour sushi-making class in Tokyo where you craft vinegared rice and four sushi varieties (decorative roll, California roll, nigiri, and battleship roll) with English-speaking instructors. The class welcomes children from age 8 and cooking beginners. You'll learn sushi etiquette, Japanese phrases, and the history behind the craft, then sit down to eat what you've made.
The experience
The class meets at the East exit of Kita-Senju station at 10:30 AM and moves to the cooking venue nearby. Over 2.5 hours, you work through four sushi types step by step: you start by learning to prepare vinegared rice, then move into rolling and shaping. The instructors walk you through a fun quiz on sushi etiquette and trivia as you go, and weave in the history of sushi and useful Japanese phrases. By the end, you've made enough to sit down and eat it together.
The class handles dietary needs upfront: raw fish, vegetarian, non-raw fish, gluten-free, and religious restrictions are all catered for, so you tell them what you need when you book. Knife skills aren't part of the curriculum, which means no one is expected to arrive with prior experience. You get all the tools and ingredients, a photo record of the class, and a recipe to take home.
Kita-Senju is accessible from Asakusa, Akihabara, Ueno, and Ginza by train, so it fits into a morning before the rest of your day in Tokyo.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (8 to 11 years). Children under 8 can't be included in the booking.
What four types of sushi will I actually make in the class?
You'll make a decorative sushi roll, California roll, nigiri-sushi, and battleship roll. The exact fillings depend on which menu you choose (raw fish, non-raw fish, vegetarian, or gluten-free), but the techniques and rolling methods are the same across all four.
How do I get to Kita-Senju station, and is it easy to reach from central Tokyo?
Kita-Senju is on the Chiyoda Line and the Hibiya Line, so it's a direct train from Asakusa, Akihabara, Ueno, and Ginza. The class meets at the East exit at 10:30 AM, giving you time to arrive from anywhere in the central wards without rushing.
Can I request a vegetarian or non-raw fish menu if I don't eat raw fish?
Yes. You can choose a non-raw fish menu with cooked shrimp and egg, a vegetarian menu, gluten-free options, or religious dietary restrictions like Halal or Kosher. You need to tell the instructor when you book so they have the right ingredients ready.
What do I get to take home after the class?
You get a photo record of yourself making sushi, all the tools and ingredients you used during the class, and a recipe card so you can try making sushi again at home.
