The Experience

Your minivan leaves your Sorrento hotel in the morning and climbs into the mountains of Partenio Regional Park, then descends into the Avellino valley, where vineyard-covered slopes and peaks frame the countryside. The route itself is the introduction: you're moving through the landscape that produces what you'll taste. Once you reach the rural heart, the day settles into a rhythm of stops—each one a working facility, not a museum. You start at an olive orchard, walk through the oil mill to see the production process, then sit in the tasting room with a selection of their oils. The next stop is a prosciutto factory, where you move from raw pork legs through the curing rooms to the finished product, then taste slices. A traditional nougat and chocolate factory follows, built around seasonal specialties like Easter candy, with a tasting of their work.

Lunch arrives at a local restaurant as a 3-course meal of regional specialties that shift with the season, washed down with house wine and finished with coffee or a digestif. This is not a rushed tasting plate; you sit and eat. The afternoon pivots to wine. You travel to Taurasi village, home to one of Italy's most notable wines—the Taurasi DOCG—and a professional sommelier guides you through a tasting session, explaining winemaking in the Avellino province and the complex flavors in the glass. A second tasting follows at a winery built from ancient materials, where you can step onto the terrace to look out over the vineyards while you drink. The drive back to Sorrento is the cool-down; you arrive in the evening.
