The Experience

“Try not to eat all the cheese before the pizza,” our guide Anna grinned, handing me a still-warm ball of mozzarella. We’d just hopped off this tiny blue Ape Calessino—honestly, it looked like something out of a cartoon—and rolled into Il Turuziello’s farm in Massa Lubrense. The ride itself was bumpy and loud (the good kind), with lemon trees flashing past and that salty air you only get near Sorrento. I kept catching whiffs of crushed leaves and something sweet—maybe the lemons? Not sure. Anna pointed out a family dog napping under a fig tree; he didn’t even flinch as we rattled by.

Before that, we’d wandered through Schiazzano’s lemon groves. The ground was soft from last night’s rain and everything smelled like citrus peel and wet earth. I tried saying “Sorrento PGI Lemon” in Italian—Li laughed at my accent, but the farmer seemed pleased anyway.
