Pasta Making Class Bologna: Fresh Shapes with Natural Colors
Make pasta by hand, color it with vegetables, and leave knowing the shapes
A pasta-making class in Bologna where you prepare dough with organic ingredients, shape classic forms like ravioli and tortellini, and add natural colors from beetroot, purple potatoes and herbs. The class runs 2.5 hours in a small group inside a historic apartment, and you leave with the pasta you've made. Gluten-free and lactose-free options are available on request.
The experience
Can you actually make pasta at home after one class? Yes, the whole point is that you leave knowing how. You start by mixing organic dough from scratch, then move through the classic shapes: tortellini, cappelletti, garganelli, tagliatelle, lasagne. The instructor shows you how to build each one, and you make them yourself. Once you've got the basics down, you move into the creative part (hearts, little boats, pyramids, bonbons), whatever shape appeals to you. The class takes place in an apartment inside a historical building, furnished with the traditional tools you'd use at home, so nothing feels foreign when you cook there later.
The natural colors are what set this apart. Instead of plain pasta, you'll color your dough with purple potatoes, beetroot, seaweeds and herbs, learning which ones give which shades and how to layer them into patterns. All the ingredients are vegetarian and organic. If you need gluten-free, lactose-free or vegan versions, you can request those in advance and the instructor will have them ready. The group stays small, so there's room to ask questions and to work at your own pace without feeling rushed.
You'll wear an apron and slippers during the class. Public transportation runs near the venue, so getting there doesn't require a car. After 2.5 hours, you pack up the pasta you've made and take it home to cook.

Is this one for you?The class runs 2.5 hours and asks you to stand and work with your hands the whole time, so it suits someone who's comfortable being on their feet and wants to actually make something rather than watch a demonstration. Groups stay small, which means you get real attention from the instructor and time to practice each shape before moving on.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
What pasta shapes do you actually learn to make?
You start with the classics: tortellini, cappelletti, garganelli, tagliatelle and lasagne. After you've practiced those, you can move on to creative shapes like hearts, boats, pyramids and bonbons: the instructor guides you through whatever you want to try.
How do you add color to the pasta without food dye?
The class uses natural ingredients: purple potatoes, beetroot, seaweeds and herbs mixed into the dough itself, so the color runs through the whole pasta. You'll learn which ingredients give which shades and how to combine them into patterns.
What if I have a gluten-free or dairy-free diet?
Gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan options are available if you request them when you book. The instructor prepares those versions so you can make pasta that fits your needs.
Do you get to take the pasta home?
Yes. You make the pasta during the class and take it with you, so you can cook it at home and taste what you've learned to make.
Is this class suitable if I've never made pasta before?
Yes. The class teaches you from the start: mixing the dough, shaping the forms, adding color. You don't need any prior experience. The instructor walks you through each step.
