The experience
You arrive at an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria a few steps from Maschio Angioino castle in the heart of Naples, where a professional pizza chef meets your group, no more than 14 people, around a wooden table laden with toppings. The class runs 2.5 hours, and what you do in that time is the whole point: you measure flour and water, mix and knead the dough with your hands, roll it out, spread the homemade sauce, choose your toppings, and slide the pizza into the wood-burning oven. The pizzaiolo walks you through each step, sharing the reasoning behind the recipe and the technique that separates Neapolitan pizza from everywhere else.
While your pizza cooks, you eat the starter that comes with the class. When your pizza emerges from the oven, you taste it. Your own work, made the way locals have made it for generations. One drink is included: a glass of wine, beer or soft drink, your choice. The class is taught in English by a local guide who knows the craft and the stories behind it.
Public transportation stops nearby if you're staying elsewhere in the city or arriving without a car. Children are welcome as long as an adult is present. Wear smart casual dress. The class does not accommodate vegan or gluten-free diets, so check your needs before booking.
