The experience

The boat leaves from either Positano or Sorrento (you pick the departure point at checkout), and heads out to Ischia, the Green Island in the Gulf of Naples. The 25ft Sparviero carries a small group, and the captain speaks English and Italian, narrating the route and answering questions as you move between stops. You'll anchor at beaches and coves, swim in the water, and pull into the three main towns: Ischia Porto, the working harbor where ferries arrive; Forio, a whitewashed fishing village on the western coast; and Lacco Ameno, known for its thermal springs and mineral-rich waters.

What makes the day work is the arrangement: the boat stays small, the captain knows the island's best swimming spots, and the stops let you move at a human pace instead of rushing through a fixed itinerary.
