Two Tuscan Vineyards, Eight Wines, One Long Lunch

You're driven from Florence through Chianti to two family-run vineyards where you taste eight wines and eat a traditional Tuscan lunch with handmade pasta and local specialties. A sommelier and expert guide walk you through the estates' history and production, and you sample olive oil and balsamic at the second stop. Transport, tastings, and lunch are all included; the whole day takes around six to seven hours.

5h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Travel from Florence through Chianti countryside
  • Arrive at Fontaleoni family-run winery
  • Tour cellar with sommelier
  • Taste four estate wines
  • Enjoy traditional Tuscan lunch with pasta
  • Sample cantucci biscuits with Vin Santo

The Experience

You're sitting in a car heading out of Florence, and you realize you don't have to think about directions or parking or whether you've had too much to drink—someone else is handling all of it. The road curves through Chianti, and your guide starts pointing out the medieval towers and old estates scattered across the hills, the ones you'd miss if you were focused on the road. After about an hour, you pull up to Fontaleoni, a family-run winery that's been making wine since 1959. A sommelier meets you at the cellar door and walks you through how the place evolved from mixed farming into what it is now—serious Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti production.

Lunch happens slowly, the way it's supposed to in Tuscany. You taste four wines from the estate while working through a spread that starts with appetizers, moves into handmade pasta with tomato sauce, and ends with cantucci biscuits you dunk into sweet Vin Santo. There's no rush. The table stays full, the conversation keeps going, and you're not thinking about the next thing on an itinerary. After lunch, you head to the second vineyard—a hilltop estate where you taste four more wines and get to try their olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The whole experience is built around small groups, so it never feels crowded or staged.

The drive back to Florence gives you time to settle into what you've just done. Eight wines, two vineyards, one proper meal, and a guide who actually knows the region—all without you having to navigate or negotiate with anyone. Round-trip transport from central Florence is included, which means you can step out of the car at your hotel without the usual transfer anxiety.
