The experience
You leave Yogyakarta by private vehicle and arrive at the Bromo hotel area by evening, giving you time to rest before the 3am start the next morning. The driver picks you up at your Yogyakarta hotel and handles the full drive. The vehicle is air-conditioned and fuel is covered. Bottled water travels with you.
Day two means a pre-dawn jeep ride to Penanjakan to watch the sunrise over Mount Bromo's caldera, then three hours exploring the volcanic landscape (the sand sea, the crater rim, the sulfur vents) before heading back to the hotel and checking out for the drive to Banyuwangi. Day three starts at noon: you hike into Ijen Crater, descend into the crater bowl to see the acidic green lake and the blue fire (a sulfurous gas that burns at night and glows blue in darkness), spend time taking in the views and the fresh air, then trek back out by 8am and return to the hotel to check out. From there the driver takes you to Ketapang Harbor for the ferry crossing to Lovina on the north coast of Bali.
The tour runs with a private vehicle throughout, so the pace and stops are yours to shape within the itinerary. Your driver speaks English and knows the region. The ferry ticket and all highway fees are included. Hotels are booked separately, and entrance fees to Bromo and Ijen are added at checkout.
