The experience

Yogyakarta is the starting point. Your team picks you up at your hotel (airport pickup carries an additional charge) and drives you to Cemoro Lawang near Probolinggo, where you check into accommodation for the first night. The route is long (this is overland travel), so expect substantial time on the road. The next morning, you wake before dawn for the Bromo Sunrise Tour: a 4x4 jeep ride into Mount Bromo National Park to watch the sun rise over the crater, casting shadows across the volcanic landscape. After sunrise, you transfer to Bondowoso City for your second night's stay.

Day three is the Ijen Crater trek. You'll hike to one of only two places on earth where natural blue flames burn in the crater at night: a phenomenon caused by sulfurous gases igniting as they emerge from the ground. The tour provides a gas mask and headlamp for this trek. Afterward, you're driven to Banyuwangi Port, where you board a ferry to Bali. If you've selected the Bali hotel transfer option, transport to your accommodation is arranged on arrival. Otherwise, the ferry ticket is your final inclusion and you make your own way from the port.

Accommodation is a private room shared for two people in either hotels or budget options (hostels or guesthouses) depending on availability. All park entrance fees, toll roads, the jeep in Bromo, parking, the ferry ticket, and an English-speaking driver who acts as tour manager are covered. You can book this as a shared group tour or as a private vehicle. The choice is yours at checkout. Physical fitness is essential: the trek and jeep rides are demanding, and the operator does not recommend this tour for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns, or pregnancy. Children from age 3 are welcome if they meet the fitness requirement.
