The Experience

The first thing I remember is our driver, Sameer, waving at a chai vendor near the Gateway of India. He grinned and told us that everyone in Mumbai knows someone at every corner—he wasn’t kidding. We sipped sweet tea out of tiny cups while pigeons scattered around our feet. The arch looked almost golden in the morning haze, but honestly, it was Sameer’s easy laugh that made me feel like I’d landed somewhere real. By the time we reached Marine Drive—the so-called Queen’s Necklace—the sun was dipping low and people were just sitting quietly on the sea wall. It felt strange how peaceful it got after all that bustle. I still think about that view sometimes when I hear traffic back home.
