The experience

The car picks you up at 8 AM from wherever you're staying and stays with you for the full ten hours. An English-speaking guide rides along and narrates the stops: the Gateway of India, an arch monument built in the 20th century to commemorate a royal visit in 1911; the Victorian Gothic spires of Victoria Terminus; the coastal curve of Marine Drive with its view across the Arabian Sea. The route moves through working Mumbai too: the Dhobi Ghat, where laundry workers still hand-wash clothes in open tanks the way they have for generations, and the Dabbawalas depot, the lunch-box delivery system that moves thousands of meals across the city each day.

You stop at Chowpatty Beach, walk through the art galleries and colonial buildings of Kala Ghoda, see Malabar Hill where Gandhi's home sits, and pass Bombay University and Film City. Crawford Market, the covered bazaar in the old city, is on the itinerary too. The guide decides the pace and the order, and the AC car waits between stops so you're not walking in the heat for transport. Lunch is your choice.
