The experience
You spend four hours in the kitchen at Dainess Chefs School, Ghana's first chef school and a member of the Chefs Association of Ghana. The class covers the full plate: Jollof rice as the centerpiece, then coleslaw, your choice of protein, green chili sauce and kelewele. The spicy fried plantain that rounds out the dish. If Jollof isn't your choice, you can opt instead for Fufu and Light Soup, Yam and Palava Sauce, Red-Red, Waakye, Banku with Okro Soup, or ask for the deconstructed fine-dining version if you want to take the recipe in a different direction.
The instruction comes from seasoned Ghanaian chefs who work you through each step. This is not a demonstration you watch. You do the cooking yourself, learning the techniques and the reasoning behind them as you go. The class runs in English, and children from age eight can join. When the four hours are done, you sit down and eat the meal you've made. The ingredients are part of what you pay for, along with the instruction itself.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (8 to 12 years). Children under 8 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly do I cook in the four hours?
You make Ghanaian Jollof rice as your main dish, then prepare all the accompaniments that complete the plate: coleslaw, grilled chicken or your protein of choice, green chili sauce and kelewele. The class walks you through each component so you understand how they come together. If you'd prefer a different main course, you can choose Fufu and Light Soup, Yam and Palava Sauce, Red-Red, Waakye or Banku with Okro Soup instead, or go for the deconstructed fine-dining version.
Do I cook the food myself or watch a chef make it?
You cook it yourself under the guidance of accredited Ghanaian chefs. They teach you the techniques and walk you through each step, but you're the one doing the hands-on work in the kitchen for the full four hours.
Is the meal I cook included in the price?
Yes. All the ingredients you use are included, and you eat the meal you've prepared at the end of the class. There's no separate charge for the food.
