A 3-hour Northern Lights snowmobile safari in Levi puts you behind the handlebars of your own machine (or riding in a sled if you prefer) through snowy forests and along the river, with time to spot the Aurora Borealis if conditions allow. The guide leads the route, provides all safety instruction and winter gear, and finishes the evening at a bonfire with grilled sausages and hot drinks. Hotel pickup is included. Children under 15 ride in a sled behind the guide unless they meet the height requirement to ride as a passenger.

The experience

You start with a safety briefing and driving instructions from your English-speaking guide, then head out into the evening on your snowmobile or in a sled pulled behind the guide's machine. The route covers roughly 20 to 30 kilometers through snowy forests and along the river, moving through the kind of darkness where the starry night and moon become the main view. If the Aurora Borealis appears, you'll see it from the trail. If not, the night sky itself is the draw.

The safari covers the ground in about three hours, then circles back to a bonfire where the group gathers to roast sausages over an open fire and drink hot tea. Winter clothing, boots, gloves, a thermal overall, woolen socks, a scarf and helmet are all provided. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if your accommodation sits far from the city center.

You'll need a valid car or motorcycle driving license to operate a snowmobile. If you don't have one or prefer not to drive, you can ride in the sled instead. Children under 15 travel in the sled behind the guide unless they're at least 140 centimeters tall and have booked at the adult price, in which case they can ride as a passenger on a snowmobile. The activity suits all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for pregnant travelers, and all drivers must have zero blood alcohol.
