The experience

The day starts with pickup and a drive through the towns that make up Puerto Plata's wider area (Montellano, Crabs, Sosua, and the city proper), so you see the geography as you move toward the ziplining site. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, French or German and will point out the Sosua countryside known locally as El Choco, where small farms and Paso Fino horse schools sit among the landscape you'll soon be flying over.

Once you reach the course, you'll zipline across seven lines strung through the farmland. Between runs, the guide shows you the working farms and horse schools below, and you'll spot monkeys moving through the trees. The setup handles the technical side (harnesses, lines, braking), so your job is to clip in, step off the platform, and ride each line to the next station.

The whole experience runs about four hours from pickup to drop-off. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle, which matters in the midday heat, and the guide stays with your group throughout. Bring water and wear clothes you don't mind getting dusty. The farmland isn't manicured, and you'll be moving between platforms in working countryside.
