Step-by-step itinerary

Zipline, boat tour, and city visit

  • Explore Puerto Limon city
  • Enjoy zipline canopy tour in Veragua Rainforest
  • Take ecological boat cruise on Tortuguero Canals

The experience

The day starts with the ziplines themselves: 11 traverses strung between observation platforms in the Veragua Rainforest, a private reserve bordered by La Amistad International Park. The operator provides thorough instruction before you clip in, and the platforms are positioned to give views across the canopy and toward Chirripó Reserve. After you work through the course, the guide drives you to Puerto Moin, where a covered motor launch waits to take you into the Tortuguero Canals: a network of natural and man-made waterways that cuts through forest just 5 miles from central Limon.

The canal cruise is where the wildlife appears. Sloths hang in the trees overhead, howler monkeys call from the branches, and iguanas, caimans and waterfowl are common sightings. The naturalist guide explains the rainforest ecosystem and points out what you're seeing as the boat moves through the narrow passages. Before heading back to the ship, you get a short walking tour of Puerto Limon City itself, where the guide covers the local culture and main attractions. Fresh fruit and water come with the day. An air-conditioned vehicle handles the transport between stops.
