The experience
The zipline course sits 20 minutes from Puerto Limón and opens with a guided walk along a 1,064-meter rainforest trail. The path winds through heliconias, banana plants and centennial trees before you reach the three suspension bridges that form the Skywalk. Bridge one spans 37 meters at 12 meters high; bridge two stretches 42 meters at 19 meters high; bridge three reaches 67 meters at 22 meters high. Crossing them puts you face-to-face with the canopy: sloths, howler monkeys, tropical frogs and birds move through the same space you're standing in.
Then comes the zipline section: 12 cables strung through the jungle, each one equipped with a double safety line and operated by trained staff. The adrenaline builds as you glide from one platform to the next, the forest floor visible below and the canopy around you. The whole activity takes about two hours. After you finish, the day continues with a stop at a local shop selling Costa Rican crafts, where you taste freshly brewed coffee and flavored cacao (caramelized or cinnamon). When available, a 15-minute walk through an adjacent garden shows tropical plants like pineapple, cacao and cinnamon, with a live demonstration of how banana processing works. The final stop is Playa Bonita, a beach spot where you can order a tropical smoothie, a cold beer or a Caribbean cocktail, and eat rice and beans cooked in coconut milk or patacones: crispy green plantain chips.
Your guide drives you through Puerto Limón on the way, pointing out Parque Vargas, the Municipal Market, the Limon Cathedral and the neighborhoods that reflect the city's Afro-Caribbean roots. The whole outing runs five to six hours from port pickup to drop-off, with an air-conditioned vehicle, bilingual guide and bottled water included throughout.
