Step-by-step itinerary
Bribri culture and nature experience

- Make and taste organic chocolate
- Explore souvenir shop
- Swim in natural waterfall pools
- Visit sacred Conical House
- Discover Bribri cosmovision and social structure
- Learn about the Shaman's role
The experience
The tour moves through three distinct moments, each rooted in how the Bribri people actually live and practice their knowledge. You start with the chocolate and medicinal plants experience: learning how traditional healing works in Bribri culture, then making handmade organic chocolate by hand and tasting it fresh. The souvenir shop at this stop holds work made by community members, so what you take home funds the people who made it. After that comes the waterfall: a one-hour break in Hone Creek's rainforest where you swim in natural pools surrounded by lush growth, no resort infrastructure, just the landscape itself.
The shaman tour closes the day. A Bribri guide or community member walks you through the Conical House (its architecture, its symbolic meanings, how it connects to the spiritual world), and explains the cosmovision, the Bribri story of how the universe came to be. You'll learn about the clan structure that shapes community life and the role of the shaman as guardian of healing and knowledge. This is not a performance staged for tourists. It is an explanation of how the Bribri understand their place in the world, delivered by someone from that world.
Public transportation gets you to the sites. A guide in English or Spanish leads all three parts. The tour suits anyone curious about indigenous culture and willing to walk through rainforest terrain. Children from age 5 are welcome. Bring a swimsuit for the waterfall and an open mind for the rest.
