The Experience
There’s nothing quite like that first rush of cool mist on your face as you step onto the metal walkways at Iguazú National Park. Our guide, Martín, met us right at our hotel in Puerto Iguazú—he had that easy way of sharing stories that made the drive fly by. Once inside the park, you’ll hear the roar of the falls long before you see them. The air smells green and earthy, and butterflies seem to follow you everywhere. We wandered past little coatis sniffing around for snacks (don’t feed them—they’re cute but sneaky), and Martín pointed out a toucan perched high above the path.
The main event? Devil’s Throat. You’ll feel the wooden planks tremble just a bit underfoot as you get closer—the spray is wild, so bring something to cover your camera. Standing there, it’s impossible not to just stop talking for a minute and take it all in. If you’re up for more excitement, there’s an optional boat ride called the Great Adventure Navigation. I tried it—honestly, it’s intense! You’ll need to be able to handle stairs and some bumps; they don’t let kids under 12 or anyone with back or heart issues join in. But if you go, expect to get soaked (I mean really soaked) as you zip right up to the base of the falls.
