The experience
You're arriving in Hanoi with a free day or flying into the region for the first time, and you want to spend it on the water rather than in a city. This cruise solves that by combining the drive from Hanoi with the full day on the bay. You don't book transport separately and then hunt for a boat. The catamaran leaves Tuan Chau Marina at 11:30 AM and sails into Lan Ha Bay, the less-crowded side of the limestone landscape, while you eat lunch on deck. The boat is new, staffed with a crew that speaks English, and built around the activities rather than just the view.
From 2 PM to 3 PM you kayak or take a bamboo boat to Bright-Dark Cave, paddling into passages between the karsts that a larger vessel can't reach. After that comes Frog Pond in Lan Ha Bay for swimming, then a cooking demonstration on the boat at 4 PM. At 4:30 PM there's a sunset ceremony with tea and cakes. The waterslide is there for the afternoon. You climb the platform and drop into the bay whenever you want. The boat returns to Tuan Chau Marina by 6 PM, and if you booked from Hanoi, the return drive takes another 2.5 to 3 hours, with drop-off at your hotel around 8:30 PM to 9 PM.
Lunch is a deluxe meal with Vietnamese seafood cooked on board. The guide speaks English throughout and handles the timing of each stop. All entrance fees are covered, so you don't pay again at the cave or anywhere else on the bay.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (4 to 8 years). Under 4: they can't be included in the booking.
Can I kayak if I've never paddled before?
Kayaking is one option at Bright-Dark Cave, and the tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The guide and crew can show you how to paddle, and a bamboo boat is available if you'd rather sit that part out.
What's the difference between booking from Hanoi and booking from Halong?
Booking from Hanoi includes hotel pickup in the Old Quarter between 7:45 AM and 8 AM, plus the return drive and drop-off. You spend about 5 hours on the road. Booking from Halong means you arrive at Tuan Chau Marina on your own by 11:10 AM and skip the transfer entirely. The cruise itself is the same.
What is Bright-Dark Cave like?
Bright-Dark Cave is a limestone cave you reach by kayak or bamboo boat from the bay. The cave has two chambers (one open to daylight and one darker inside), and sits among the karsts that make Ha Long Bay famous.
Is lunch included, and what if I have dietary restrictions?
Lunch is a deluxe meal with Vietnamese seafood and is included in the price. Mention any dietary needs when you book so the crew can prepare an alternative.
How many people will be on the boat?
The boat is a luxury catamaran with a crew and an English-speaking guide. The exact group size isn't fixed, but the boat is staffed to handle the day's activities (kayaking, swimming, cooking class and waterslide) without crowding.
