What’s included

Your day includes hotel pickup if selected (from Halong or Hanoi), all entrance fees for both Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay attractions, a premium Vietnamese fusion lunch onboard with options for dietary needs, guided kayaking or bamboo boat rides at Bright Cave and Ao Ech lagoon, an onboard cooking demonstration where you’ll learn to make traditional spring rolls, plus a sunset party before returning to harbor in the early evening.

I didn’t expect the water to be that shade of green. Not blue, not turquoise—something softer. When we stepped onto the Taliya Day Cruise at Tuan Chau Marina, I was still half-awake from the drive, but our guide (Minh? I think that was his name) handed us a sweet ginger welcome drink and grinned like he’d seen this all for the first time too. The limestone cliffs were already crowding the horizon before I’d even finished my cup.

The cruise moved slow enough that you could actually hear little splashes against the hull. At lunch (some kind of lemongrass fish and crispy spring rolls), I kept staring out these huge windows while Minh pointed out which islands had legends attached—one looked like a sleeping dragon if you squinted. He told us about Ha Long Bay being one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, but honestly, it was just nice to watch sunlight flicker on the water and listen to people around me try to pronounce “Lan Ha” correctly (I definitely failed).

Bright Cave was next—a local fisherwoman rowed our bamboo boat through these low-hanging stalagmites. She laughed when we ducked too early; her arms looked stronger than mine will ever be. There was this hush inside the cave except for her paddle scraping stone now and then. Later at Ao Ech lagoon, I tried kayaking for maybe ten minutes before giving up and just floating there, letting my hands trail in the water. The quiet felt different here—like nobody expected anything from you.

Back on deck, a chef showed us how to roll Vietnamese spring rolls (mine fell apart immediately). Someone spilled dipping sauce but everyone just laughed it off. Sunset hit while we were still licking our fingers—orange light over those wild cliffs—and Minh called it “the golden hour.” Maybe cheesy but yeah, he wasn’t wrong. I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in city traffic.
