The Experience

The tools are already laid out on the workbench when you arrive — pliers, wire cutters, spools of copper and silver wire in different gauges, and trays of gemstones catching the light. Linh, the instructor, is there to meet you, and within minutes you're holding a design from the Consocia catalog or unfolding a sketch you brought from home. The workshop runs from 2pm to 5pm every day, which gives you three solid hours to move from choosing a piece to finishing it. You don't need experience; the focus is on wire art jewelry, and Linh teaches the techniques as you go — how to coil, bend, wrap, and set stones so they stay put.

What makes this different from watching a video at home is that you get to pick. Some people choose a simple ring or bracelet from the catalog because they want something they can wear immediately.
