You board at noon, swim or kayak in the afternoon, eat three meals on the boat, sleep in your cabin, wake for Tai Chi and cave exploration, then disembark by lunchtime the next day. The cruise handles all activities, meals, and overnight accommodation; the only decision is whether to add the Hanoi transfer or arrange your own transport to the dock.
The limestone walls rise straight out of the water before you've even left the dock. You're standing on Dock 16 at Tuan Chau Marina, watching the Alisa Cruise materialize — a five-star vessel that's going to be your floating base for the next 36 hours. By 12:30 PM you're checked into your cabin, a welcome drink in hand, and the bay is already opening up around you. The itinerary moves fast: lunch comes first, then a slow cruise past Cua Van Floating Village, Tien Ong Cave, and the limestone formations that make Ha Long Bay what it is. You pass Dog Stone Islet, Fighting Cock rock, and Incense Burner Island — each one a named landmark that guides have been pointing out to travelers for decades.
Around 3 PM you choose your own path. Either you swim at Ti Top Island's beach (weather permitting), or you take a kayak out into the quieter water, or you visit the Pearl Farm Village to watch locals hand-harvest pearls. You can't do more than one — there isn't time — so you pick what matters to you. By 5:30 PM you're back on deck for sunset, cocktails and juice on the sky bar, then dinner at 7:30. The evening is yours: squid fishing off the rail, a Vietnam cultural film in the lounge, or just sitting with the bay going dark around you. Some people try their luck at night fishing; most just watch the water and talk.
Day two starts early. Tai Chi on the sundeck at 6:30 AM if you want it, then coffee and pastries while the bay's morning light hits the limestone. At 8 AM you visit Sung Sot Cave — about 45 minutes inside, walking through chambers that open into chambers. By 10 AM you're back aboard, checking out of your cabin and eating brunch. At 11:30 AM the boat reaches the harbor and you step off. The whole thing ends by 12:30 PM, which means if you booked the transfer service ($35 per person round trip from Hanoi), you're back at your hotel by early afternoon. If you arranged your own way there, you just need to be ready at Dock 16 before 11:45 AM on day one.
Everything is included: your cabin, all meals, the guide, every activity, bottled water, taxes. The only thing not built in is the transfer from Hanoi — that's separate, and worth booking if you don't have a rental car or want to skip the three-hour drive yourself. Luggage is one suitcase and one carry-on per person; anything bigger needs approval ahead of time. Passport details go in at booking for everyone traveling.
