The experience
Koh Rok and Koh Haa sit far enough from Ko Lanta that reaching them requires a speedboat and a full day, which is exactly why the reefs there stay less crowded than the closer islands. The boat leaves Saladan Pier after hotel pickup and crosses open Andaman Sea, passing limestone cliffs and small islands on the way. You'll snorkel two separate zones around Koh Rok (each one a chance to see different coral and fish), then break for a Thai lunch served on the beach itself, where you can swim near shore or simply rest on the sand. After eating, the boat heads across to Koh Haa, a small cluster of islands with a calm lagoon where the water is so clear that the coral and fish are visible from the surface.
The day runs about seven and a half hours from pickup to drop-off. Snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, life jacket) comes with you, along with a guide who speaks English or Thai. Bottled water, soft drinks and seasonal fruit are provided throughout. The boat is air-conditioned, which matters during the crossing. The actual snorkeling happens in the open water, so sun protection and a rash guard are worth bringing. One detail that changes the experience: because you're visiting two separate reefs instead of making multiple stops at one site, you see a wider range of coral and marine life in a single trip.
Hotel pickup covers all Ko Lanta accommodations, and the return is timed to land you back before evening. The national park entrance fee is not included in the price and is paid separately on arrival. Cancellation with 24 hours' notice gets a full refund.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Thai.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 11 years); Infant (under 4): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the water like at Koh Rok and Koh Haa compared to closer snorkeling spots near Ko Lanta?
Koh Rok and Koh Haa are known for some of Thailand's clearest water, which means better visibility of the coral reefs and fish. The distance from Ko Lanta keeps these reefs less crowded than the islands closer to shore.
How much time do I actually spend in the water snorkeling versus traveling and eating?
You snorkel at two separate zones around Koh Rok, then again in the lagoon at Koh Haa, with a full break for Thai lunch on Koh Rok's beach. The boat ride takes up the morning and late afternoon. The actual water time is split across the middle hours of the day.
What happens if I want to skip snorkeling at one of the sites and just relax on the beach instead?
The itinerary builds in free time at Koh Rok after lunch, so you can choose to swim near shore, rest on the sand, or snorkel as much as you want. At Koh Haa, snorkeling in the lagoon is the main activity, but you're not forced into the water if you'd rather stay on deck or in the shallows.
Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear, or is it provided?
Snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, and life jacket) is included and provided on the boat. You don't need to bring your own, though some people prefer their own mask for fit and comfort.
Is the boat ride rough, and what's the sea like on the crossing to Koh Rok?
The crossing is by speedboat across open Andaman Sea, so you'll feel the motion of the water. The boat is air-conditioned and the views of limestone cliffs and islands are part of the journey. Seasickness medication is worth considering if you're prone to it, though the crossing itself is a standard part of reaching these outer reefs.
