The experience
The boat leaves Koh Lanta in the morning with your guide and heads to Emerald Cave at Koh Mook, the day's main event. Getting there means swimming through an underwater tunnel roughly 80 meters long: the only way to reach the hidden lagoon and sandy beach inside. Once through, you surface in a limestone chamber with towering cliffs on all sides and no other way out but the tunnel you came through. The cave itself is the draw. The swim is the access.
Between the cave and the return, you snorkel the coral reefs around Koh Ngai, Koh Mah and Koh Chuak, where clownfish and other reef life move through the shallows. The guide handles the route and timing. Lunch is authentic Thai food, with drinking water and fruit included. You get free time to rest and swim on the beach before the boat heads back to Koh Lanta.
Life jacket, snorkeling mask and first aid kit are provided. Hotel pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport to the pier. The trip runs eight to nine hours door to door. Children from age four are welcome, though the underwater tunnel swim is the physical crux of the day: anyone uncomfortable with that passage should know it before booking.
