The experience

The boat leaves between 8:00 and 8:45 AM from your hotel in Patong, Kata or Karon, which means you have time for breakfast before heading to the pier. The speed boat holds a shared group and carries snorkeling equipment and life jackets for everyone on board. Your guide speaks English and stays with the group throughout the day.

The first stop is Pileh Lagoon, where you swim and snorkel in clear water surrounded by limestone cliffs. From there the boat moves to Loh Samah Beach, where you snorkel again and can see the Viking Cave and Monkey Beach from the water: landing is not part of this stop. The tour then cruises around Maya Bay, the protected zone famous from film. You view it from the boat rather than wade ashore, since the bay is closed to visitors on land most days. This is the scenic part of the route where you stay aboard and take in the landscape.

Lunch is served on Phi Phi Island, where you have time to swim, explore the nearby beaches or simply rest before the final snorkeling session. The last stop is Khai Island, part of Ao Phang Nga National Park, where you snorkel again and can swim or try water sports if you want. The boat returns to your hotel by late afternoon, completing the eight-hour day.

What's the difference between snorkeling at Pileh Lagoon and Loh Samah Beach on this tour?

Pileh Lagoon is the first stop, a sheltered snorkeling spot ringed by cliffs where the water is calm and clear. Loh Samah Beach is the second snorkeling site, and from the water there you can see the Viking Cave and Monkey Beach on the surrounding rocks. You snorkel but don't land on the beach itself.

Can I actually get off the boat and walk around Maya Bay?

No, Maya Bay is a protected zone and is closed to visitors landing on shore most days. The tour cruises around it so you see the bay from the water and take photos, but you stay aboard the boat.

When and where does the hotel pickup happen?
