Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Zanzibar's nature and cuisine
- Walk through spice farm with guide
- Visit Jozani forest and see monkeys
- Swim in Kuza cave's clear water
- Relax at Paje beach
- Dine at The Rock Zanzibar Restaurant
The experience
Your day starts at a spice farm where you walk among plants and trees growing cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and other crops the island is known for. Your guide teaches you to identify spices by touch, smell and taste (crushing leaves and fruits to guess which is which), and explains their uses in medicine and cooking. This is not a museum display. You're moving through an active farm run by the local community.
From there you head south to Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, where red colobus monkeys live in the forest canopy. The monkeys are accustomed to visitors and allow close approach for photographs as they feed and move between branches. The park also protects mangrove forest and is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage status. After Jozani, you reach Kuza Cave, an ancient limestone cavern with crystal-clear freshwater inside. Swimming here is the main draw. The water is cool and the cave stays shaded and settled even in hot weather, and many visitors report feeling refreshed afterward.
Paje Beach comes next, a stretch of white sand on the southeastern coast where tidal changes shape what you can do: low tide is best for beach walks and exploring tidal pools, while high tide suits swimming. Your final stop is The Rock Restaurant, built on an outcropping in the Indian Ocean and reachable by boat at high tide or on foot when the tide drops. The restaurant seats up to 14 tables on an open terrace facing the ocean and serves fresh seafood, vegetarian dishes and a children's menu. This is where the day ends, though lunch itself is not included in the tour price.

Is this one for you?Eight hours covers five stops but means limited time at each one: ideal if you're new to Zanzibar and want a broad overview of the island's spice heritage, forests, beaches and dining scene in a single day. If you prefer to linger at one or two sites, a shorter focused tour would suit you better.
