The experience
Jozani Forest opens the day with Red Colobus Monkeys in close range and a walk through mangrove swamps where you see marine species and mahogany forest. The forest is part of Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, and the guide explains the ecosystem as you move through it. From there you head to Kuza Cave, where you swim in healing freshwater inside a cave that doubles as a cultural centre. The guide shows artefacts and a timeline of Swahili history going back to the origins of humans in East Africa.
Paje Beach comes next: soft white sand and shallow water ideal for swimming or snorkeling, with palm trees and calm Indian Ocean views. The Rock Restaurant sits nearby on the coast, and a three-hour stop there lets you order seafood lunch with an ocean view. This is the moment to celebrate a special occasion or simply sit over the water. After lunch, the final stop is Salaam Cave off Kizimkazi Beach, where you swim alongside sea turtles in clear, warm, shallow water. The cave is sheltered enough for both experienced snorkelers and first-time swimmers.
The tour runs nine hours total. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language (chosen at checkout), and the vehicle is air-conditioned with WiFi on board. Pickup from your hotel is included, and children from age one are welcome. Bottled water comes with the tour. Lunch at The Rock is your choice to add or skip when you book.
