The PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty is a four-hour diving class in Tenerife where you learn to navigate underwater using a compass and natural references, so you can lead dives instead of following them. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The course suits divers from age 10 onward. A guide leads the instruction in English, Spanish, Italian or French.

The experience

Four hours of instruction teaches you the navigation skills that separate divers who find their way from those who rely on someone else to. You'll learn to use a compass underwater and read natural landmarks (reef formations, sand patterns, rock features) as reference points so you can plot a route and retrace it. The course runs in the water around Tenerife, and a live guide walks you through the techniques and drills that make navigation reliable instead of guesswork.

Hotel pickup and drop-off bracket the day, so you don't arrange transport to the dive site. The minivan is air-conditioned, and the operator provides bottled water and snacks during the course. A guide leads the instruction in your choice of English, Spanish, Italian or French. Children from age 10 can enroll. All participants complete a health questionnaire before diving, and some pre-existing conditions may prevent you from taking part. Your doctor can advise on that.
