After 30 minutes of training on land, you enter the water under close supervision to watch stingrays, rays, fish, turtles, moray eels, octopus and other marine life against a volcanic reef backdrop. The dive center sits directly at the water's edge, and the instructor-to-diver ratio stays at maximum two to one.

The experience

The Stingray Bay is where this dive happens, and it's built around what lives there. Stingrays are the draw (they're peaceful and present most days, though not guaranteed on every dive), but the bay holds about 15 species of fish, rays, turtles, crabs, moray eels, octopus, cuttlefish and shrimp. A large part of the bottom is volcanic reef, which is why so many animals make it their home. You don't need certification to go. The dive is designed for people trying scuba for the first time.

The day starts on land with 30 minutes of training in a language you understand. The dive center is right at the water entrance, so there's no transport between briefing and the water. Once you're geared up, you go in under the supervision of an instructor, with a maximum of two divers per guide. That ratio is what sets this school apart. It means real comfort and real safety, not a crowded group moving as one unit. Children as young as 8 can dive here.

You can choose between a 40-minute dive or a 20-minute one. Both include the same training and instructor supervision, and the dive center provides all snorkelling equipment. The center is accessible by public transportation, and if you need a specific shoe size or have height considerations, let them know when you book so the gear fits properly.
