The experience
You start at Banhoek Lodge on Helshoogte Road, where you arrive 15 minutes early to get fitted to your electric bike, collect your helmet, and hear a briefing from your accredited wine guide. The e-bike lets you cover the rolling terrain without the strain of a standard bike, so the focus stays on the valley and the stops ahead rather than the pedalling. The route runs through private vineyards and away from traffic, which means you spend the morning on quiet roads surrounded by mountains and vines instead of dodging cars on main routes.
Your guide leads you to Zorgvliet for the first wine tasting, talking through the winery's history, the seasons of the vines and what you're tasting as you go. After cycling onward through more private vineyard roads, you reach Thelema, a small boutique winery, for the second tasting of the day. The two stops are woven into the cycling itself: the time on the bike and the time at each winery are calculated together across the 4 to 5 hours, so you're not rushing between them.
The tour ends back at Banhoek Lodge, where you return your bike and helmet. Your guide speaks English and is accredited to lead wine tastings, so the commentary goes beyond the basics. You can park your car safely at the lodge for the duration of the tour.
