The experience
You get picked up from your accommodation in the morning, usually between 9 and 10 am, and spend the day with someone born and raised in Stellenbosch who knows the region's winemaking inside out. The two morning wineries are chosen based on what you actually drink, not a fixed circuit, but stops tailored to your taste in styles and varieties. These are often places you would not find on your own. At each one you walk through an individual tasting, learning the winery's particular techniques, terroir and what makes their wines different from the next.
After lunch (arranged at a suitable spot if you want it, though you pay for the meal), you visit a third winery in the afternoon. Throughout the day the conversation moves beyond wine: your guide talks about Stellenbosch's history, the culture and languages of the region, and the geography that shapes what grows here. Because the tour is private, the discussions follow what interests you instead of sticking to a script. All tasting fees and entrance fees are included in the price.
The day wraps around seven and a half hours, ending with a drop-off back at your accommodation. The guide speaks English or German, and the activity suits all fitness levels.
What’s included
- Private transportation from your accommodation.

Is this one for you?The full day (seven and a half hours) means you visit three wineries instead of two and have time for the conversations that make the tastings stick. If your schedule only has a morning or an afternoon free, this tour will not fit.
