Stellenbosch Wine Tour: Tastings, Cellar Tours & Lunch
Visit four estates in a day, tasting from cellar to table.
You get picked up in Stellenbosch and spend the day moving between rotating wine estates—three or four cellar tours, tastings at each stop, a lunch break with views, and a cheese pairing to finish. The route changes based on what's open and what the group wants to explore, so no two days are quite the same. Lunch and all tastings are included in the price.

The Experience
The cork pops before you've even sat down. That sound—sharp, clean, echoing through the stone cellar—tells you something about how seriously these places take their work. Afrivista has been running wine tours out of Stellenbosch since 1997, and the itinerary shifts depending on the day, the season, and who's in the van. You might end up at Rustenberg one week and Glenelly the next. The guide adjusts the route based on what's open, what's worth tasting that particular morning, and what the group seems interested in—so if someone wants to dig into the history of a vineyard instead of rushing to the next one, that happens.
The day starts with pickup in Stellenbosch itself (not Cape Town, unless you arrange it separately beforehand). You'll move between three or four estates, each one a cellar tour and tasting. The estates rotate—Backsberg, Lanzerac, Remhoogte, and others depending on the day—so the experience isn't identical every time you go. Lunch is included and happens somewhere in the middle, usually at one of the estates with a garden view. After that comes the cheese and wine pairing, which is less about fancy technique and more about what actually tastes good together. The guide covers the wine itself, but also the culture and history of the region, and they'll shift focus if the group leans into one topic over another.
The full day tour includes the cellar tours, all tastings, lunch, and the cheese pairing—nothing extra to pay on the day. Groups stay small enough that the van doesn't feel crowded, and the pace is steady without being rushed. Afrivista's whole approach is that everybody's different, so they'd rather you contact them before booking to talk through what you actually want to see and taste, since the exact route can change. It's not a fixed itinerary you're locked into; it's more like a framework that bends to the group.
