The experience
The tour runs four to five hours total, which leaves most of the day free before or after. You'll cycle through private vineyards and away from traffic the entire route, with an accredited wine guide who talks through the valley's wine history, the vine seasons and the landscape itself. The e-bikes handle the terrain, so the focus stays on the ride and the stops rather than the effort of pedaling uphill.
Zorgvliet is the first winery stop, then Thelema for the second tasting. Both are small, family-owned operations tucked into the valley. Between them and after, you're cycling through vineyards with mountains visible the whole time. The guide leads the route and shapes the pace. You're not navigating on your own. Bottled water, a fruit stick and peanuts come with the tour, so you have something to eat between the tastings.
Meet at Banhoek Lodge on Helshoogte Road (R310) 15 minutes before the start time so the operator can fit you to the right-sized bike and helmet and brief the group. Parking is available there. The tour ends at the same point. You'll need to be at least 18 years old. The operator notes the tour suits all fitness levels, though the e-bike assist handles most of the climbing.
