From there the route moves to Cawdor Castle, where you can either walk the gardens and explore the exterior or, if you've booked the castle ticket option, step inside the rooms and follow the history that inspired Shakespeare's Macbeth. The castle sits on its own grounds north of Inverness, so you're not rushing through a town to reach it.

After Cawdor, the tour takes a walking break through Scots Pine Forest at Loch Garten, the native woodland that fills much of the Cairngorms. This is where you're most likely to spot red squirrels and ospreys if the timing and weather align. Then comes lunch in Aviemore, a village built into the park itself, so you're eating in the landscape rather than stopping at a roadside halt. The final stretch runs to Loch Morlich at the Glenmore Visitor Centre—a freshwater beach ringed by mountains and forest where the route ends.
