The experience
The tour runs 10 hours from Inverness, with pickup and drop-off in town or along your agreed route. Your guide is a Highlander who wears a kilt and knows the region. The vehicle is a sanitized luxury car that seats up to seven. You travel at your own pace with photo stops built in, so the itinerary bends around what interests you. If you want extra time at a distillery or want to skip one, that's how it works. One distillery tour is included in the price. Tastings at other stops cost £15 to £75+ per person and are entirely optional, so you can explore the grounds and shops instead if you prefer.
Glen Moray Distillery sits on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin and began life as a brewery in 1830 before becoming a whisky distillery in 1897. It has a coffee shop locals favor, where you can linger over a coffee and homemade treat or sample a dram. From there the route moves through Speyside's rolling countryside to stops that depend on your interests and the day's timing: Cardhu on the Mannoch Hills, celebrated for its smooth character and its connection to Johnnie Walker; Glenlivet in the Livet Valley near the Cairngorms, the first distillery in the area to obtain a legal license after 1823; Glenfarclas, family-owned since 1865 and known for sherry cask single malts; Glen Grant, where a walk through Victorian gardens leads to a woodland gorge; and others. A traditional Scottish cooperage shows you how coopers hand-build and repair the oak casks that give whisky its color, aroma and flavor. The cask work is generations old and remains essential to the craft.
Lunch happens in Dufftown, a Speyside town with cafés, restaurants and a whisky shop stocking over 600 varieties, or at The Sidings, a quirky railway-themed eatery in a converted station. You'll also stop in Craigellachie village for a stroll along the River Spey and a look at the 19th-century iron bridge. Weather, opening hours and road conditions may shift the itinerary, but the operator offers a worthwhile alternative whenever that happens. Children from age 5 are welcome. Bring waterproof footwear and a jacket, and let the operator know in advance if you're traveling with larger bags or have any medical needs.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (5 to 12 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between the distillery tour that's included and the tastings I pay extra for?
The included distillery tour is a full guided experience at one distillery of your choice, with admission and commentary. Tastings at other stops are optional add-ons you arrange on the day, costing £15 to £75+ per person. You can also simply explore the grounds, shops and surroundings without tasting anything.
Can I wear a kilt myself, or is that just the guide?
You're welcome to wear a kilt or arisaid if you'd like. The operator provides kilts, arisaids, replica swords and shields for a more immersive experience. Just let them know in advance.
What happens if I want to spend more time at one distillery and skip another?
The tour is designed for you to travel at your own pace, so the itinerary adjusts around what interests you. If you want extra time at a particular stop, the guide can accommodate that and skip or shorten others to fit the 10-hour day.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch is not included. You'll stop in Dufftown, where you can eat at a café, restaurant or independent shop, or at The Sidings, a railway-themed eatery in a converted station. You're also welcome to bring your own lunch or snacks.
What's the cooperage, and why is it on the route?
The cooperage is a working workshop where skilled coopers hand-build, repair and maintain the oak casks that age Scotch whisky. The casks shape the whisky's color, aroma and flavor (contributing notes of vanilla, spice, caramel and dried fruit), so watching the coopers at work shows you a craft essential to the entire whisky industry.
Will the tour be affected by bad weather?
Weather, opening hours and road conditions may affect the itinerary. The operator will offer a worthwhile alternative whenever possible, so you still get a full day even if one stop needs to change.
