You learn your dosha: the Ayurvedic body type that shapes everything from what you eat to how you move.

A 10-day Ayurveda and yoga retreat in Kathmandu where you learn the foundational practices of both disciplines through daily instruction, therapeutic massage, and personalized detox protocols. The program identifies your dosha (body type) on day one, then structures your meals, yoga postures, breathing work and treatments around it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. Accommodation is on-site with rooftop access and two dedicated yoga halls.

The experience

The retreat starts by identifying whether your nature is Vata (airy), Pitta (fiery), or Kapha (earthy). A classification that becomes the framework for everything that follows. Once you know your dosha, the doctor designs an Ayurvedic detox protocol specific to your body and any health concerns you bring. A therapist then carries out the treatments under medical supervision: you receive therapeutic massage matched to your type, Siro-dhara (herbal oil dripped onto the third eye), and other therapies the doctor prescribes. The instruction is live and in English, and the expert team works with you across the full 10 days.

Yoga and meditation lessons run daily, with postures and breathing techniques selected for your dosha rather than taught to the group as a whole. You learn how to balance the five elements in your body: fire (anger), water (emotions), earth (lethargy), air (nerves) and ether (thoughts), and how to apply Ayurvedic principles to diet and daily life once you leave. The rooftop restaurant serves all meals according to your body type. The building has elevator access and air-conditioned rooms. Heritage sites including Monkey Temple and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square are within walking distance.

Is this one for you? This retreat suits anyone seeking to understand Ayurveda and yoga as practical tools for daily life rather than as a fitness class. The 10-day length allows the doctor to design a detox protocol and the therapists to deliver multiple treatments. Shorter retreats do not leave time for the personalized assessment and follow-through this program builds on.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly is my dosha and how does it shape the retreat?

Your dosha is your Ayurvedic body type (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha) determined on the first day. It governs which foods support your digestion, which yoga postures suit your frame, and which therapies address your imbalances. The doctor and therapists use it to customize your massage, detox plan, and daily practice so nothing is generic.

Will I do yoga every day, and is it suitable if I'm not flexible?

Yoga lessons run daily and are tailored to your dosha and fitness level. The program is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The postures are chosen for your body type, not your experience. The expert team adjusts the practice to what your body needs, not what a standard class demands.

What does Siro-dhara feel like and why is it part of the retreat?

Siro-dhara is the practice of dripping warm herbal oil and medicine onto the third eye in a steady stream. In Ayurveda it is used to calm the nervous system, ease stress and support mental clarity. The therapist performs it as part of your personalized treatment plan.

Are meals included, and will they match my dosha?

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day. The rooftop restaurant prepares all meals according to your dosha so your diet supports your body type and the detox the doctor has designed. No separate food costs arise during the retreat.

How close are the heritage temples, and can I visit them during the retreat?

Monkey Temple and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square are within walking distance of the retreat center. You can visit them on your own time. The retreat does not include guided sightseeing, but the location puts these sites within easy reach for independent exploration.
