The experience

Jade Caverns sits more than 60 million years into the island's geology: a cenote carved by underground river and sea water, now open to the surface. You'll ride your own ATV (single or double, depending on what you book) through jungle trails to reach it, with your guide leading the way. Once there, the cenote floor is yours to explore: swim in the water or climb to the natural platform and jump from about 20 feet high. The guide explains the cenote's role in Mayan culture and the geological forces that shaped it, so the place makes sense before you're in it.

After Jade Caverns, the route cuts through El Cedral, a Mayan village where most residents are of Mayan descent. You'll walk around to see a 900-year-old temple and one of Cozumel's oldest Catholic churches, built centuries after the temple itself. There's time to browse the black coral jewelry and other crafts locals make and sell: no pressure, just the option. The guide walks with you and fills in the history. The village is small enough that you're not rushing through it.

The day wraps with a tequila tasting, a variety of artisanal organic bottles, before the ride back to wherever you started. Pickup and drop-off happen at your cruise port, resort, Airbnb or home in Cozumel, and the operator texts you via WhatsApp to confirm the time.
