Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Cozumel's culture and beaches

  • Visit San Gervasio Mayan Ruins
  • Relax at Chen Rio Beach
  • Experience tequila tasting and chocolate making
  • Enjoy Playa Mirando al Mar beach

The Experience

The tour centers on San Gervasio, Cozumel's largest Mayan site. You'll walk the ceremonial trails and stand in front of the temples that once drew pilgrims across the Caribbean, learning how the Maya used this place spiritually. The guide walks you through the ruins rather than pointing from a distance, so the scale of the structures and the layout of the site become clear as you move through them.

Between the ruins and the hacienda, you stop at Chen Rio Beach. The water pools between rock formations in a way that keeps it shallow and calm—safe for children to swim while adults float in the Caribbean without a current pulling them out. It's a break from the walking and the heat, and the beach faces open water instead of the developed strip.

At the hacienda, you taste tequila and watch someone make chocolate the traditional way, grinding cacao by hand. Then you eat handmade tortillas with molcajete sauce, a meal built from what the region has grown for centuries. The whole experience—ruins, beach, food—takes four to five hours. Private transportation in an air-conditioned car is included, as is bottled water and soda. Your hotel pickup means no arranging a separate ride to the start.

San Gervasio is Cozumel's most important Mayan archaeological site. You walk among the ancient temples and ceremonial trails where Maya pilgrims once traveled, and the guide explains the spiritual significance the place held for them. It's the centerpiece of the tour because it's the largest and most intact Mayan ruins on the island.

Is Chen Rio Beach safe for children to swim in?

Chen Rio Beach has shallow, calm water formed between rocks that create a natural hot tub effect. The water stays protected from currents, making it ideal and safe for children to swim, while adults can relax in the same setting facing the Caribbean.

What happens at the traditional hacienda?

At the hacienda, you taste tequila, watch artisan chocolate being made by hand using traditional methods, and eat a meal of handmade tortillas with authentic molcajete sauce. It's a cultural stop where you experience the flavors and techniques that represent Mexico's regional traditions.

How long does the whole tour take?

The tour runs four to five hours from start to finish, including the guided walk through the ruins, the beach stop, the hacienda visit, and travel between each location.

Is hotel pickup included, and what about children under 4?
