The Experience
Your guide meets you at your hotel or cruise pier and drives you in a convertible Jeep across the island. The first stop is the Mestizaje Monument, an open-air sculpture facing the sea that marks the moment Mayan civilization and Spanish conquest collided—a 20-minute pause to stand in front of the thing itself and understand what it represents. Next is a small memorial church built 500 years after that meeting, a quiet space that frames the cultural legacy that followed.
San Gervasio, Cozumel's most important archaeological site, takes up the middle of the day. Your guide—trained and certified by SECTUR, Mexico's tourism authority—walks you through the ancient structures where Mayans lived, worshipped and left behind a pyramid construction unlike anything on the mainland. You'll learn how Mayan canoes crossed open water to reach this island and pay tribute to Ixchel, the goddess of fertility and the moon. The site entrance is included; the walk takes about an hour.
A tequila and mezcal tasting comes next, a 20-minute stop where you taste two of Mexico's most storied drinks and hear the history behind each one. The day ends at a beach club on the water where your guide seats you at a table with a view. Lunch is included—fajitas with chicken, meat or fish—and you can swim over the coral reefs and watch tropical fish move through the water, or stay on a lounger and listen to the waves. The whole club stop runs about an hour and a half. Your guide then drives you back to your starting point.

What exactly is the Mestizaje Monument and why does the tour start there?
The Mestizaje Monument is a sculpture that symbolizes the birth of mixed-race Mexican identity at the moment Spanish and Mayan cultures first met on Cozumel. The tour opens there because it frames the cultural collision that shaped everything you'll see afterward—the colonial church, the Mayan ruins, the traditions that survive today.
Do I need to buy a separate ticket to enter San Gervasio?
San Gervasio's entrance fee is included in the tour price. Your guide handles it, so you walk straight in without stopping at a ticket window.
Can I choose what we do, or is the itinerary fixed?
The tour is private and flexible. The operator lists these stops as recommendations, but you can modify the day to match what interests you—spend more time at the ruins, skip the tasting, add or drop the beach club, or ask your guide about other spots on the island.
What's included in the lunch at the beach club?
Lunch is fajitas with your choice of chicken, meat or fish, served at a beachfront table. The beach club ticket is included; drinks at the bar are separate.
How long is the whole tour, and what time does it start?
The tour runs 3 to 4 hours from pickup to drop-off. Your guide will confirm the start time when you book, based on your hotel or cruise pier location and your preferences.
Can I swim at the beach club, or is it just for eating and relaxing?
You can do both. The beach club has a bar, loungers and bathrooms. The water is shallow enough to swim over the coral reefs and see tropical fish, or you can sit on a lounger facing the sea and relax instead.
