The experience
Six days is enough to move through Jordan's main sites without rushing the stops. The tour starts with an airport transfer to Amman, where you spend two nights and begin with a half-day walking tour of the Citadel, Roman Theater, and Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman: the old neighborhood of 1920s villas now lined with galleries and cafes. On day two you can choose a traditional lunch at a local restaurant or a cooking class at Beit Sitti house, where you learn to make Jordanian dishes from scratch.
Day three takes you south to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy, where you walk through theaters, temples and the Great Colonnade before heading to Petra. Dinner that evening is at Petra Kitchen, a live cooking experience where you prepare and eat traditional dishes while learning about Arabic spices. Day four is the full Petra visit: you walk the Siq, a narrow 1.2-kilometer passage carved into stone, and emerge at the Treasury. The carved facade that dominates the valley. From there you see the Theater, Byzantine Church and Royal Tombs, with time to climb either the Monastery or the High Place of Sacrifice if you choose.
The afternoon drive takes you to Wadi Rum, the red desert where Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian were filmed. You spend a night in a camp there, and the next morning take a two-hour jeep tour through the valley's towering cliffs and rosy sand before heading north to Madaba to see the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Church of Saint George. Mount Nebo comes next: the summit overlooks the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Your final night is at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, where the hotel has a pool and beach. Spa treatments are available at your own cost. A morning transfer takes you back to the airport on day six.
