The experience
The aperitivo is the Italian answer to the question of how to spend the hour before dinner, and this class teaches you the craft. You'll work in a Cesarina's home kitchen (one of Italy's 1000+ certified home cooks who open their doors to travelers), and learn to make five different nibbles using local ingredients: bruschetta with fragrant olive oil, grilled market vegetables, and a selection of the area's finest charcuterie and cheeses. The Cesarina guides you through each one, and the whole point is to understand how these pieces fit together as a single, elegant moment.
Once everything is ready, you taste it all together with a selection of red and white wines from local cellars (typically a sparkling prosecco or a light red), the way you'd actually serve it to friends. The class runs two hours and happens in the early evening, so you're learning and eating as the sun sets over Como. Your guide speaks English or Italian, and the whole experience is built around the idea that an aperitivo is not just food. It's how Italians slow down and connect before the night begins.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Infant (under 4): free.
What exactly do I make during the two hours in the kitchen?
You prepare five different appetizers: bruschetta with olive oil, grilled vegetables, and a selection of local charcuterie and cheeses. Each one teaches you a technique or a pairing principle you can use at home.
Do I eat what I make, or is this just instruction?
You prepare everything and then taste it all together with local wines (prosecco and red or white wines from regional cellars), so you're eating a full aperitivo at the end of the class, not just watching a demonstration.
What is a Cesarina, and why does the class happen in their home?
Cesarina is Italy's network of certified home cooks who welcome travelers into their own kitchens to teach real Italian cooking. The class happens in their home because that's where an aperitivo actually belongs: in the everyday space where Italians live, not in a restaurant or a studio.
Is this class private, or will there be other travelers there?
This is a shared cooking workshop, so you'll be learning and cooking alongside other travelers in the Cesarina's home kitchen.
