The experience

The tasting begins with eight wines from Poggio ai Laghi, each one chosen to show the range of what the estate produces. You'll taste Arella and Firmina spumantes, then move into the reds: Oletta Chianti Riserva DOCG, Lucilla Chianti Classico DOCG, Aranda Supertuscan IGT, Donna Ava Toscana Rosso IGT, and Nina Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG. A white, Arania IGT Bianco Toscana, rounds out the selection. A wine expert walks you through each one, explaining how it was made, what flavors to notice, and which foods pair best with it.

After the wines come the oils and vinegars that carry the same care as the bottles. You'll taste the Classic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, then the White Truffle Olive Oil and Chili Pepper Olive Oil: each one distinct in character. The vinegar tasting includes Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI in the Gold Selection and Lacrime Viola, a red onion balsamic that is a Tuscan specialty. Tuscan appetizers (salami, finocchiona, prosciutto, pecorino, bruschetta with tomato and basil, and toasted bread crisps) anchor the tasting and show how these products work on the table.

The experience takes place in a refined, intimate setting at the estate itself. Water and soft drinks come with the tasting, and the guide is available in English, Spanish, or Italian. The whole session runs about 90 minutes.
