A sommelier walks you through the vineyard before you taste the wines inside the castle.

A 1.5-hour wine tasting in a medieval castle in Montalcino pairs three local Tuscan wines (Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, and IGT Sangiovese) with bread sticks and water. A professional sommelier leads you through the vineyard, explains the castle's history and winemaking techniques, then guides you through each wine's character and origin as you taste.

The experience

The experience starts in the vineyard itself. You walk the slopes of the Brunello region with the sommelier, who explains how the castle's family produces wine and what makes the local terroir distinct. The landscape frames the tasting before the tasting begins. You see where the grapes grow before you taste what they become. Then you move inside the castle to the tasting room.

Three wines arrive with bread sticks and water. The sommelier pours a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG vintage first, then a Rosso di Montalcino DOC, then an IGT Sangiovese. Each one gets explained in depth: the grape variety, the aging process, the flavor notes, why this wine matters in Tuscan tradition. You taste and ask questions. The sommelier is there to help you understand what you're drinking, not to rush through a list.

The whole thing takes 90 minutes. You can book the experience in English or Italian, and children from age 4 are welcome. Water and the bread sticks come with the tasting. Anything beyond that you arrange separately.
