The experience
You arrive at Paradiso di Cacuci expecting a tasting room and find instead a working winery surrounded by vineyards. A sommelier walks you through the cellar first, showing you how Brunello ages in oak and what separates a younger wine from one that has sat for seven years or more. The vines themselves are visible from the tasting room, not a backdrop, but the actual source of what you're about to drink.
The tasting moves through six wines in order: Rosato Toscano, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, two expressions of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (one under seven years, one well-aged), Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG, and a Super Tuscan selection. Each glass arrives with the sommelier's explanation of what you're tasting and why: the soil, the vintage, the time in the barrel. Lunch runs alongside: pecorino cheese, bruschetta with olive oil, Tuscan cold cuts (salami, ham, capocollo, finocchiona), then fresh handmade pinci pasta with slow-cooked ragù, finished with a homemade Tuscan dessert. A vegetarian pasta option is available if you request it at booking.
The whole thing takes 90 minutes. Because the group stays small and the winery is family-run rather than a commercial operation, the pace feels unhurried. You're not moving through a script. The sommelier answers questions and lets the conversation follow the wines. You leave knowing what Brunello actually tastes like and why the region's reputation is built on it.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to taste Brunello in its own setting rather than at a commercial tasting room: the winery's small size and family operation mean you'll spend the afternoon with people who actually make the wine, not guides rotating through dozens of groups a day. The 90-minute format fits a free afternoon without eating up your whole day.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
What's the difference between the two Brunello wines in the tasting?
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG under seven years is fresher and more fruit-forward, while the well-aged version over seven years has developed deeper, more complex flavors from its time in oak. The tasting includes both so you can taste how the wine evolves.
Is the lunch a full meal or small bites?
It's a proper lunch: cheese and cured meats to start, then fresh handmade pinci pasta with ragù as the main course, finished with a traditional Tuscan dessert. The food is designed to pair with the wines throughout the tasting.
How far is Paradiso di Cacuci from Montalcino town?
The winery sits in the rolling hills surrounding Montalcino, nestled in the countryside rather than in town. You'll need your own transport to reach it, or arrange a transfer in advance.
Can I do this experience if I don't drink alcohol?
The tasting is built around wine, and there's no non-alcoholic alternative offered. If you have concerns about the alcohol content or prefer not to participate in the tasting portion, contact the operator before booking.
