Step-by-step itinerary
Snorkeling at Nusa Penida spots
- Snorkel with manta rays at Manta Point
- Explore coral gardens at Gamat Bay
- Snorkel along coral walls at Wall Point
The experience
Two hours in the water across three snorkeling sites means you spend most of the time in the ocean, not traveling between stops. Manta Point is where the operator focuses the trip. It's the sanctuary where manta rays are most likely to appear, and the route takes you there first when visibility and conditions are best. After Manta Point, you move to Gamat Bay to explore the coral gardens and schools of tropical fish, then finish at Wall Point, where the coral walls rise dramatically and smaller reef fish school in the current.
A local guide who knows these waters leads the group of around twenty snorkelers on a shared boat. The guide speaks English and stays in the water with you, positioning the group where manta rays are most active and pointing out the reef structure and fish species as you move through each site. All snorkeling gear (mask, fins, wetsuit if needed) comes with the booking, so you arrive and enter the water without renting separately. A GoPro operator captures photos and video throughout the day, which you receive after the trip.
The boat departs from Nusa Penida and returns there. Confirm your pickup point and departure time when you book, as these vary by accommodation location. Bring a towel, sunscreen, and a light layer for the boat ride back, as the wind picks up once you're out of the water. The two-hour duration is time in and around the water, not including the boat transfer to and from the sites.
What’s included

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What are the chances of seeing manta rays at Manta Point?
Manta Point is Nusa Penida's primary manta ray sanctuary, and the operator routes the snorkeling trip there specifically because sightings are most likely there compared to other sites in the area. Manta rays are seasonal and weather-dependent, so sightings are not guaranteed, but this site offers the highest probability in the region.
How many people snorkel on the boat?
The shared boat holds around twenty snorkelers, so you're part of a small-to-medium group rather than a large tour. The guide manages the group in the water and positions everyone to see the manta rays and reef life.
Do I need snorkeling experience to join?
The snorkeling is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the guide is with you in the water to help. If you've never snorkeled before, let the guide know before entering the water, and they'll show you how to use the equipment and stay comfortable in the ocean.
What's included in the booking?
All snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, and wetsuit) comes with the trip, along with a local English-speaking guide and GoPro photos of your time in the water. You don't need to rent gear separately or arrange a guide independently.
What is Gamat Bay like compared to Manta Point?
Gamat Bay is a coral garden site with vibrant tropical fish and pristine coral formations, offering a different underwater landscape than Manta Point. While Manta Point focuses on the chance to see manta rays, Gamat Bay showcases the reef ecosystem and schooling fish.
How long does the whole experience take, including the boat ride?
The snorkeling itself is two hours across the three sites. Add travel time to and from Nusa Penida based on where you're staying. Confirm the exact departure time and pickup location when you book.
