Step-by-step itinerary

Snorkeling adventure in Nusa Penida

  • Meet at Banjar Nyuh Harbour
  • Snorkel at Manta Point
  • Snorkel at Gamat Bay
  • Swim along coral wall
  • Return to meeting point

The experience

You meet at Banjar Nyuh Harbour and board a shared boat with other snorkelers heading to the same three sites. The boat takes you first to Manta Point, the stop built around a real difference: manta rays congregate here more reliably than at other Nusa Penida reefs, so your guide positions the group where the current and the season favor sightings. If the rays don't show, you still have two more reefs to explore, each one distinct. Gamat Bay is where the tropical fish density peaks: schools of color moving through shallow water. Wall Point is the name for a giant coral formation you swim alongside, the structure itself the draw.

The guide handles the route and the timing, and all your snorkeling equipment comes with you: mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit if you need it. Underwater photos and video are shot during the dives and included in the package, so you leave with the moments, not just the memory. The whole outing runs about two hours from start to finish, which means you can fit it into a half-day or a free afternoon without reshaping your schedule.

A shared boat means you're traveling with other guests, which keeps the cost down and often leads to conversations with people on the same trip. If you'd rather have the boat and the guide to yourself or your group, a private boat can be arranged at checkout: same three sites, same guide, just your party alone.

What’s included

  • All snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit).
  • underwater photos and video.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the actual chance of seeing manta rays at Manta Point?

Manta Point is named for the reef where manta rays are most likely to appear in Nusa Penida waters, but sightings depend on season and current conditions. Your guide knows the patterns and positions the group where rays are most active, but no operator can guarantee a sighting on any given day. The other two snorkeling sites (Gamat Bay and Wall Point) offer different marine life if rays don't appear.

Do I need snorkeling experience to join this?

No experience is required. All equipment is provided and fitted to you at the boat, and your guide is in the water with the group the whole time. The guide speaks English and can adjust the pace and depth to match your comfort level.

How long does the whole activity take?

The outing runs about two hours total, from meeting at Banjar Nyuh Harbour through the return. That includes travel time between the three snorkeling sites, time in the water at each stop, and the boat ride back.

What happens if weather or conditions make snorkeling unsafe?

Your guide and boat operator make the call on the day based on water conditions, wind and current. If conditions are unsafe, the operator will reschedule you for another departure or offer a refund. This is rare in Nusa Penida's dry season, but it can happen.

Are the underwater photos included, or do I pay extra?

Underwater photos and video are shot by the guide during the snorkeling and included in your booking. You receive them after the activity ends.

Can I bring my own snorkeling gear?

You can, but all equipment (mask, fins, snorkel and wetsuit) is provided and included in the price. Most travelers use the operator's gear to avoid packing it and to ensure it fits properly.
