You’ll hike from Senaru village up steep volcanic trails with a local guide, camp under stars at crater rims, reach Mount Rinjani’s summit for sunrise views stretching all the way to Bali, soak sore muscles by Segara Anak Lake’s hot springs, and share simple meals cooked over open fires. The mountain leaves its mark—you’ll feel it long after you’re home.
Your journey includes hotel pickup anywhere in Lombok (for private tours), one night’s stay in Senaru village before hiking begins, all national park entry fees, full board meals plus drinks each day out on the mountain trails, air-conditioned transfers in and out, support from local guides and porters who carry gear (and cook too), plus all necessary camping equipment so you don’t need to lug anything extra along.

Includes hotel pickup.★ 4.98 (133)2dUS$ 165View › I didn’t really expect the air in Senaru to smell so sharp—almost like wet grass and wood smoke mixed together. We’d just arrived after a winding drive from Senggigi, and honestly my legs were already twitchy thinking about what was coming. Our guide, Pak Agus, met us with this easy grin and handed out cups of thick Lombok coffee that tasted a bit burnt but somehow perfect for the early evening. He told us stories about past trekkers who tried to race up Rinjani and ended up crawling by sunset. I laughed but also quietly promised myself not to be that person.
The first morning started before dawn—like, real darkness where you can only hear your own boots crunching gravel. The climb up to Sembalun crater rim was tougher than I thought; loose rocks everywhere, clouds rolling in and out so fast you barely catch a view before it’s gone again. At one point, our porter (I think his name was Edi?) just whistled this song I didn’t recognize, steady as anything. When we finally reached the rim, the wind hit me straight in the face and there it was: Segara Anak Lake down below, this impossible blue in the middle of all that grey rock. I tried to take a photo but it never looked right—maybe you just have to see it yourself.
Summit day is rough—I won’t lie. Sand and scree make every step forward feel like half a step back. But then suddenly the sky goes pink behind Agung volcano in Bali (didn’t even know you could see that far), and everyone just stops talking for a second. There’s something about standing on top of Mount Rinjani at sunrise that makes your heart go weirdly quiet. Later we scrambled down to the lake—my knees hated me for it—and soaked our feet while Agus cooked instant noodles over a tiny fire. Sulphur steam drifted off the hot springs nearby; it smelled kind of like eggs but felt good on tired legs.
The last night camping at Senaru crater rim was colder than I expected; I slept in all my clothes, listening to porters chatting softly outside our tents while stars flickered overhead. By morning my shoes were stiff with dew and my hands shook pouring tea into a plastic cup (spilled half of it). Coming down through the forest back to Senaru village, monkeys crashed through branches above us—one nearly dropped something on my head but missed, thankfully. Even now when I close my eyes I can still hear those early morning sounds up on Rinjani.
