The Experience

The day starts with pickup between 7 and 7:30 AM from your Sanur accommodation. You'll head to the dive centre to meet your divemaster, sort through paperwork and check your equipment before the 2.5-hour drive to Tulamben. The USAT Liberty sits in shallow water close to shore—a World War II cargo ship now covered in coral and swarming with reef fish, making it one of Bali's most accessible wreck dives. Beginners can manage it; certified divers find plenty to explore across the hull and superstructure.

You'll do two guided dives from the beach, with the divemaster staying with your small group (no more than three divers per instructor, depending on experience level). All scuba gear is provided—BCD, regulator, mask, wetsuit, boots, fins, weight belt and air tanks—so you only bring yourself. Between dives, you'll have lunch and snacks on shore, with drinking water available throughout the day. The second dive happens in the afternoon, and you'll be back in Sanur by 4 PM for transfer to your hotel.

If you're not certified yet, you can still go; the divemaster will work with you in the water. The small group size means instruction is tailored to whoever is in the boat that day. Note that you'll need to wait 18 hours after diving before flying or hiking, so plan your onward travel for the next morning if you have a flight out.
